You can find the answer to most questions you might have when it comes to hiring a motorhome from us, as well as questions about touring Ireland in a campervan.

How do I book a motorhome in Ireland?

Easy! Just fill in your required dates and we'll get straight back with your quote assuming your dates are available. If you would like to proceed with the booking we will require a 20% deposit to secure the booking.

​

The remaining 80% of the booking fee is due payable 30 days prior to the rental date. 

​

If your rental dates are less than 30 days away then the full rental price will be required upon booking to secure your dates.

​

You'll be sent a booking form complete with terms and conditions, which must be signed and returned by email prior to arrival/pickup.

​

Can you pick me up from the airport?

Yes we can! We offer free pickup from Knock Ireland West Airport We can also arrange pickup/dropoff almost anywhere, although additional fees may apply depending on the distance. Please enquire directly for more details.

How old do I need to be to hire a camper in Ireland?

Anyone between the ages of 25 and 70 with a full licence can hire a camper from Great Escape Camper Hire. The driver must have held the licence for a minimum of 5 years.

​

What's included in the price?

Your rental fee includes the rental of the vehicle itself, 2 bottles of gas, all crockery, cutlery and utensils plus insurance for driving on the island of Ireland (please advise if you will be taking the vehicle into the UK or Europe as an additional fee may be required).

What license do I need to drive a motorhome in Ireland?

A standard, full car licence is all you need to drive a campervan in Ireland, UK and Europe as long as the vehicle weight 3,500kg or less. All motorhome rentals from Great Escape Camper Hire are 3,500kg or less.

​

Can I add an additional driver to my motorhome rental?

A maximum of 2 drivers is allowed per vehicle per hire. The additional driver is charged at €12.50 per day to cover the insurance excess.

​

Can I take the motorhome out of Ireland?

It is possible to take the camper out of Ireland and into the UK or the European Continent, although we will need to be advised of your plans in advance in order to comply with insurance.

​

Is there a limit on the distance I can drive?

There is no limit on the mileage during your rental period.

​

Will you show me how everything works?

Upon arrival, we will spend approximately 45 minutes going through all aspects of the vehicle and how the various components work. This run-through is compulsory and we don't release the vehicle until we have gone through everything with you ensuring you have a wonderful and carefree holiday.

Is it difficult to drive a motorhome?

Although our motorhomes are all larger than an average car, it takes very little time to adjust to the increased size. You are also higher up in a motorhome than you would be in a car, giving you a great view of the road. Care should be taken when

What about Covid-19 and cleanliness?

You can be rest assured that each time a van is returned to us, in addition to the standard levels of cleaning, we also do a deep clean ensuring that all surfaces are fully sterilised. A fresh, clean set of crockery, cutlery and utensils are added to each new vehicle hire.

What if I can't take my holiday due to Covid restrictions?

If you can't make your holiday due to government restrictions then we will offer alternative dates or a full refund, whichever you prefer.

TOURING IRELAND IN A CAMPERVAN FAQ

What is wild camping and is it legal in Ireland?

Wild camping is a term used for 'off grid' camping anywhere other than a campsite. Unfortunately wild camping is illegal in Ireland.

​

How can I find the best places to stay in Ireland in my motorhome?

How has Coronavirus affected camping in Ireland?

Like the rest of the world, Covid restrictions have altered, but certainly not prevented camping in Ireland. In fact, hiring a camper and setting off under your own steam might be just about the safest holiday you can have right now! Please check ahead and contact any campsite that you wish to stay on in advance as many sites are now operating under a booking only basis.
